New York's resident sage quirk returns one last time.

Good morning, and welcome to The Sunday Stream, where you get the best streaming TV recs sent straight to your inbox every Sunday morning.

To help ignore the boiling ocean, confirmed existence of aliens, our failing gerontocracy, or the relentless Barbie-discourse (its been a wild seven days), this week we have:

- A comic docuseries’ final bow

Now let's get to it.

How To With John Wilson (Season 3)

What It’s About:

Life? New York? This one is impossible to peg, but essentially it’s a comedic docuseries framed as tutorials where John Wilson attempts to advise viewers on simple how-to topics that often dovetail into his struggles with anxiety.

Why You Should Watch:

I’ve tried pitching this one to friends a million times, and it’s nearly impossible to describe. What starts as absurdist, irreverent humor turns into poetic reflections on life’s truths, all while being a love letter to the weirdness of New York City (and its many bizarre inhabitants). It’s quirky and philosophical and often concludes with sublime reflections on life communicated via cats in bowties, urban decay, or in episode one’s case, bottles of urine. An undersung aspect of the show (probably my favorite) is the run-of-the-mill characters Wilson spotlights along the way, including sanitation workers, doomsday preppers, and the sort of homeless. The kind of people you never get to spend time with on TV (or often, in life) but are front and center in Wilson’s worldview. Watch this for quick bursts of unusual and subtly enlightened entertainment.

Who’s In It, and Where You Probably Know Them From

John Wilson - Despite the success of this show, Wilson has yet to do much outside of it. His IMDB is mostly other similar shorts he’s produced over the years. Let’s hope someone can figure out what else to do with him now that How To is ending, but considering how specific his anxious talents are, that might be a tall order.

Who Made It, and What Else Have They Done:

This is John Wilson’s first show, but it’s exec produced by Nathan Fielder. Someone who, if you’re familiar with at all, will make all of the above make a lot more sense.
